Biography

At age 11 I learned the art of fine hand sewing and by age 16 I had designed and hand made a collection of clothing.  I immediately fell in love with making things by hand and have been fortunate to make it my life's work.   I studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in Manhattan, and turned down job offers to work for well known designers in favor of making my own custom hand made clothing.  My interest has always been in the beauty of hand work and fine detailing combined with beautiful well made fabrics.   My work shows the passion of doing what I love, and creating unique one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be mass produced.  It possesses a creative spirit that is lost in mass manufacturing.  It is a connection between the artist, the environment and the person who owns it.  Each piece is a work of art and a creative inspiration of that particular moment combined with the energy and connection I feel with the people I make things for.

I started my career in New York City where I designed and hand made stage clothes for the entertainment industry.  I did a lot of leather work and hand embellishing. I moved to Los Angeles where I continued my work with leathers and where I learned the art of tambour beading.   I designed hand beaded leather, suede and velvet vests for musicians with lizards, alligators, snakes, spiders, and dragonflies and also did a line with various Peruvian designs.  Musicians such as Tom Jones, Rod Stewart and Joey Kramer from Aerosmith wore my vests on stage.  Actresses began commissioning me for hand beaded dresses and tops in silks, velvets and chiffons.  Goldie Hawn, Tina Sinatra, Jacqueline Smith, Valerie Bertinelli were some of the actresses who purchased my unique designs.  I also sold an exclusive line of one-of-a-kind clothing through Maxfields and Fred Segal in Los Angeles.  My clothing has appeared on stage, in MTV videos, TV award shows and movies, and in magazines.

I am presently living in Connecticut.  My business has evolved into designing and hand sewing custom window treatments, pillows, accessories and bedding for the home as well as clothing.  I have a good eye for combining colors, patterns and textures and I have always loved beautiful quality fabrics.   I really enjoy collaborating with people to create rooms in their home which are beautiful and comfortable for them to live in.   My custom window treatments have been featured in home design magazines.

I am also teaching sewing and design in my Monroe Studio, as well as a Fashion Design Course at Masuk High School.  I teach classes of all ages and skill sets.  There is a renewed interest in the hand crafts, and people are wanting to learn to sew and design unique and beautiful things which is very exciting.  There are a lot of talented people out there who just need an opportunity to explore their abilities and helping people discover that is very much a passion of mine.
