Window treatments enhance the
design and proportions of the windows and can complement the
beauty of the architecture or hide design flaws.
People are often amazed at how much a quality window
treatment warms up the room and weaves it together into a
beautiful and harmonious tapestry of mood, tone and style.
Window treatments can be very modern, as well as
traditional or elegant.
Designing the right
window treatment is like finding the perfect frame for a
painting. It doesn’t overpower the painting, but
accentuates and draws out its beauty, colors and textures
into an artistic whole.
Beauty
and luxury can be created with opulent fabrics and trims, or
very simply tailored with a beautiful fabric. It is
much more successful when you design a window treatment if
you understand the hand of the cloth, how the layers will
drape, hang or fold, the correct stitch tension and needle
size, the proper method of construction to align and match
patterns, and the most appropriate lining and interlining to
sculpt the fabric so it will perform and function in all the
ways the client wants. A well-made curtain brings out
the best qualities of a beautiful textile. I have decades of experience
designing clothing for the entertainment industry and have
worked with the finest silks and the most luxurious velvets
which are very difficult to sew. My work has appeared in
magazines, MTV videos, award shows and on stage. I
understand every aspect of the process from design to
construction to professional installation, and that is what
sets me apart from the decorator stores and many workrooms.
I love my work and it is reflected in each individual
project that I create.
My business is very
service oriented, focusing on the utmost convenience and
ease for the client. I bring to the client's home samples of
fabrics, trim and hardware as well as blinds or any hard
treatments they may be interested in. I have lots of
pictures to generate ideas, some of which are on this website. While the client is looking through samples, I
take precise measurements and photograph the windows and
rooms.
Installation decisions such
as how and where to properly hang the window treatments
affect the proportions and length and have to be precisely
calculated before work is begun.
I note the types of fabrics they are drawn to: the
colors, design and textures. Some clients know exactly what
they want and need me to execute it, and others want ideas
and suggestions on which window treatments would best suit
their needs and budget.
My husband
Scott Clarke
is a skilled furniture maker and designer. He does the
professional installations and has designed and built
special mounting frames as well as customized hardware to
fit exact specifications. He has built custom window
seats with storage and cabinetry for my clients as well.
Together we are able to come up with a creative solution for
almost anything. His website is
